What is Modern Housing?

Participants of international conference try to find the answer

In Tashkent 16-17 on April, hundreds of experts and specialists are due to discuss international and local experience of modern housing.

The International Conference on modern housing as an engine for comprehensive development and transformation of rural areas, enhancing living standards of population, which will be held in the capital on 16-17 April 2013, is designed to be a unique platform, which will not only discuss global trends in housing construction and mechanisms of its development, but and, above all, their application and adaptation to the Central Asian region. It's no secret that Uzbekistan is only in the beginning of the long journey – bootstrapping creation of model residential areas with whole relevant infrastructure. At the same time, implementation of a program of model housing in rural areas launched in 2009 has already brought significant benefits. More than 23 thousand homes were built across the country.

Much credit goes to the domestic construction materials industry. For a short time, dozens of industrial enterprises were created in the regions, producing modern and high quality products. Just this year, 18 enterprises producing cement, concrete, brick, tile, asphalt, gravel processing to be commissioned in the Andijon region, and another nine will be reconstructed. This work will be done at the expense of own funds of enterprises and entrepreneurs, as well as bank loans and foreign investments. As a result, 512 new jobs will be created.

Currently, there are 271 plants in the region, producing building materials. 63 of them are specialized in the manufacture of brick. In addition, there are effective enterprises for production of slate, limestone, concrete, construction paints, aluminum, cement, asphalt and other products. Projects aimed at launching new enterprises for the cement production to be completed soon in Andijon and Asaka areas. Overall, 174 projects for building materials production for a total of 23.9 billion soums (official exchange rate of 15.04.2013 $1=2049.18 UZS) will be implemented this year. In this way, 2,280 new jobs will be created.

In total, 2,115 modern model houses were built and commissioned in Andijon region. This year, there is a plan to build 900 similar houses. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper).
